I'm in the midst of a two-week stretch of working every day and trying to find a new home, but I had to mention this. I came home today and read that Brad Renfro died. I felt sad. I loved The Cure. Such a waste of a young life. Then I saw the video of Tom Cruise rambling on and on about Scientology like a complete nutbar. My mood has improved. "You know what I'm saying?" No, Tom, I don't, because YOU ARE INSANE.
I'm a little late with the Christmas-themed title, but I watched Love Actually recently and was itching to use it. Speaking of Love Actually, here's a belated holiday message from Billy Mack and the best part of the movie. Keira totally married the wrong guy.
At Rachel's urging, here are my ten favorite movies of 2007, in no particular order:
Atonement. "So, I don't forgive her, may she burn in hell."
The Lives of Others
Becoming Jane - This wouldn't be on the list without the overwhelming power of the McAvoy.
3:10 to Yuma
Gone Baby Gone
The Bourne Ultimatum - A book and a towel!
Zodiac
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Lars and the Real Girl
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Sure, it was at least thirty minutes too long and there were better movies, but no other movie had this.
Honorable mentions go to Michael Clayton, Knocked Up, Ratatouille, The Namesake, and Juno, which was cute but tried way too hard to be witty at times. "Honest to blog?" That was enough to boot it out of the top ten.
In other news, the final season of The Wire premiered this week. It continues to be awesome, despite the unfortunate lack of Omar and his sawed-off shotgun.
